Happy Halloween!!!!!
I can't wait to see the betty boop pics mia....get those up here soon, ok? It has finally started raining here, thank goodness--the earth has been so dry after all those fires this summer. It smells wonderful. It rained promptly on time for halloween last night, so that the downtown streets were wet and i thought all my stilting friends were nuts! The crowds were small this year due to the wet weather, but it was warm and still fun to run around. Below are some pics. I was a day of the dead character.
LAst weekend i went to a blessing way for my friend Heather who in two weeks or so will have a new baby. It was sweet, we strung beads we had brought for her to take to the birth, bathed and rubbed her feet, had a little ceremony, and henna-ed her belly. She is so cute and big!
I have a bpot of black bean and chix sausage soup on the stove, warming the house. The rain is falling outside the window and all the plants on the deck are slick with water....so beautiful and cozy.....i wanted to take poor pooka on a walk today, but it is really coming down out there! The one place i have taken her this week is to Age's house for drum class. She loves it! She sits right in front of the skin of the drum when you are trying to play and smiles. It is 4 of us women and Age teaches it, and it is so much fun.
Ok girls, i love you both so much and i am looking forward to hanging out with you like you wouldn't believe! LEt's conference call about the menu soon, no?

Worky work work
It is so funny how with every passing year I see our family evolving, and I feel more and more strongly about near the two of you. It really is weird that because the three of us are naturally made up of the same stuff (physically) that we are just so similar (psychologically). I just always feel so in tune with you guys on all subjects, even when we are so far away from each other. Anyways, that being said, I am SO excited for Thanksgiving to come! Hiking, Cooking, Getting mom drunk, Maybe some pottery painting, Gossiping, WOO HOO!! Maybe we should think about organizing another secret santa or something for this year?
So not that much is new with me... I am at work now, but when I get home I will load some pictures of my new friends, roomies, and the bare but quaint house! Earlier this week I was invited with Ali to our friend Dane's house to do a steam bath! His dad built his house, and built them a sweat lodge, and so it was AMAZING to do... We all got nakie and brought in a gallon of water each, and pretty much meditated for three different times of 15 minutes. It was such a great experience, and I felt so clean and happy after, but it was definitely an intense thing! So nice..
Work is fine, and I enjoy being relaxed while there, but it is just really tolling! I know I work about 40 hours just like everyone else, but retail is so different because not only are you on your feet and having to be social the WHOLE time, but it is also 7 days a week, not 5... its a killer I tell ya. ugh! So Im pretty tired often, but when I am not there I am either at the yoga studio, or am having some wine with the roomies and our little group of friends that we have made family. I take Coop on walks and hikes as much as I can, but I feel so bad for him on days when I work doubles, and am gone from 10 am to 10 pm!! Luckily my roommates are there to keep him company, but I know he is upset with me for never being there for him! I think it is time for the two of us to go on a HUGE full day hike just the two of us on my next day off... Ill let ya know and post pictures when we do!
Other than the daily grind I am really getting in to Halloween this year! I think I told you, but I am going to be betty boop! No plans yet, but we are all excited to go out and meet some people ( and then wake up for work at 7am the next morning)! What are you all being? I hope you are going out or having parties or something : )
Lastly, Brie, Set up your facebook page young lady!!! hehe, I want you to be able to see ALL of the pictures that we all have up, and it makes it easier to show you two about weekly flings, and friends that I am talking about! (Plus I want to be able to stalk your live like I can lexi's)! hehe Love you both

One year down, many to go!
So Tim and I celebrated our one year anniversary. We decided we weren't doing presents. Anniversaries shouldn't be about what object you give each other they should be about remembering back to all the reasons you love each other and the things you have been through together.
uuum yeah I'm slacking!
Holy Moly!! It has been a loooooong time since I posted. Sorry ya'all I have been soooo super busy. Let me see if I can give you guys a run down of everything going on without being boring. Here goes:

Adventures in Solo marketing....
SO, this week i put together a presentation folder of info about acupuncture and PMS, acupuncture and fertility, etc....all kinds of OB/GYN stuff, and a letter about acupuncture from a scientific and asian exsplanation, how it can help their patients, and how having their patients come see me can help take a load of the doctor, etc, blah blah blah....
Today, i went to 3 different Gyny offices to drop said folders off to docs there, and on eof the offices was at the hospital, in the medical offices branch. So, i am on my way down from the office, which was on the second floor, and these two guys, neither one small, but the one guy was HUGE, like 6-5 maybe, and like well over 200 lbs, go to get in the elevator ahead of me. As they walk into it, they collide side by side, and get stuck between the doors. There is a brief and subtle moment of pushing and shoving as they figure out how to get thru, as if this was a totally normal way to enter an elevator, at which point i walk in quietly behind them and start to giggle discreetly while pretending to look at my phone. The smaller guy goes "and he's the smaller of my two brothers!", and we all laugh a bit. So, we land, and i turn to them as i am about to get out and say "good luck with this one guys" , and then i get out, and lo-and-behold, there stand the tallest latino i have ever met so far, also waying in well over 200, and the guys goes, "that's him!" and i tell him, "sh-t, now you are really in trouble!.....it was so comical....
So we must have burnt peas......and how about broccoli just blanched, simple, like lorraine makes it. And maybe we can have something interesting for potatoes, like with roasted garlic or wasabi or chipotle? And we could do cranberry salsa as well as sweet regular cranberry? And corn bread ? Any more ideas?

New Home for a New Year
It's been a little bit of a rough week... i'm working 49 hours between the two jobs! That's kind of a nice little jump start so that I can stock the house with all of the necessary move in things like cleaning supplies and all those basic cooking needs that can be so annoying. The bad side of it is that I've gotten a KILLER cold! I will say though, that since learning about the netti pot, and about not having sugar or dairy when sick, and some other little tricks like that, that for the first time in forever my cold is not turning in to a sinus infection wooo hooo!! Okay, on to more interesting things...
Ally Will is coming back to the area from college for a little weekend visit, so maybe ill get to see her this weekend, but mostly I will be spending my day off sat moving more stuff in and painting and having fun with the new roomies!! My other roomate's name is Kate and she is from the bay area and is arriving Sunday! Ill add photos of us all as they come!
Love you and can not wait to hear what is new with you both. You havent blogged in awhile Jeje... youre turn!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. everyone start posting some good new recipes for turkey day!

Time to Blog.... La-dies : )
Ok, if ya don't know what that means, you must go to Youtube and watch Demetri Martin...Mia turned me on to him....he is jst so darn funny!!!! OH my gosh.
ANyway, this weekend is mellow yellow. We were supposed to go to Dunun village to drm and dance and camp and play in the river all weekend, but, Tony started school last week spontaneosly and art school is pretty intense. He is majoring in industrial design, so, lots of drawing. SO, the I ching reccomended that we stay home. Never doubt the i ching.
Yesterday we went to the art store here and slowly sorted thru his materials list for his classes. WOW! I just love art stores. Not that i know exactly what i would do with most of the stuff in them, but i just have to resist this overwhelming urge to grab everything and start squishing paint out of tubes and testing every pen or colored pencil. Art stores must be the most optomistic place on earth....i mean, all that blank paper, all that possibility.....anything could happen! (um...deep thought by brie)
Last night I went to a hip hop performance that was a memorial for a teacher of mine who passed away laast year from meningitis as a complication of HIV, and the benefit was for the santa crz AIDS project. The performance was so amazing....maybe there will be clips on line, but you should look up Gary Kendall. You may know his choreaography if you ever saw the Jabbawockies dance on whatever that dance show is on MTV. They wear masks. Pretty bad ass.
I haven't danced with Gary in years, but it was sch a blast to see his old coreography revisited on stage last night and to recognize and remember doing some of them with him years ago.
Here are some pics..... love you!!

Gobbble Gobble.....
So Saturday Tony and I drove up to SF for Power to the Peaceful, which is a festival in Golden Gate park that started two weeks after 9/11 and has been held every year since. Micheal Franti of SPearhead started it, and it is a free music festival to raise consciousness around pro-peace, anti-war/bush/etc community. It started out as 4-5000 people in the park, and this year, it was 50, 000. It was insane! I ran into a few women who used to live in Santa Cruz but moved to LA, and it was great to re-connect. It was super sunny and hot, which is rare for summer in the city. It is usually foggy and cold until fall. I never even saw the stage thru the crowd, but we had fun anyway, and after the show, Tony and a few of our guys friends played drums and people danced on the grass. Then we went shoe shopping (a favorite passtime/weakness of both of ours.) He usually gets white sneakers of some sort. I was looking for flat or short heal leather boots for fall, but wound up finding some wine-red saucony tennies on sale for 25$. : 0
Then we cruised home and hung out with our friends Andrea and Alsene, who live in Eugene, and were down for the weekend so Alsene could teach dance class. She lived with him in Guinea for 7 years and is the only american I know who speaks fluent Sousou. Sunday he taught a great class and we all took turns dancing in the circle after, and then walked across the street to the natural market and ate lunch together. Pooka came to class to, and sat patiently outside the door to class until the drums stopped and tyhen ran inside to find me, and to run around saying "hi" to all of our friends that she knows. She is such a social butterfly!!
Can't wait to see you guys-- can we go for a fall hike together? xoxoxoxo brie brie

Non-Labor day weekend...
Saturday there was a master dance teacher in town teaching west african. He is always very diva-esk and moody with the drummers if they mess up even once! Tony and I went home and cleaned the house instead of going to the second class....that is a new bonding activity of ours :)
Finally got a big jute rug too, so poor pooka doesn't have to walk so tiff on the slippery pergo floor. Ouch!
Saturday night we went to Age's (pronounced o-ah) for a house warming/potluck. Poor guy, he is 83 and had to move out of the house he lived in for 15 years with all his stuff and couldn'tfind a new house for like two months, so he was couch surfing. But now he and two other drummers got a great place, and we raged dununs until around 10:30 and hung out with friends and barbecued. I love playing drums!
So sunday, we slept in, went out for breakfast at this little place with the best pancakes in the world (i don't even like pancakes!, but these are great) and took pooka to the beach, where practically every family from San Jose with a kid under 5 was for the day. So cute! all these little kids, mostly latino and vietnamese, running around like the circus. I laughed alot. When people see pooka, they just get the biggest smile on their face, because she smiles at them. It is the funniest thing to watch.....what a flirt!
So, today, i was going to go buy a bed off craigslist, but then realized i need to rent a small uhaul to get it, and.....yeah, um, it's Labor day , remember Brie? So, no Uhaul. No bed either. At least not until tomorrow. Other than that, started a Detox for this week, and hung out reading/studying, and sunbathing on the deck with pooka.
XOXOXOX
Brie
A relaxing weekend
For the first time in a long time, Tim and I haven't had a gazillion things planned into our weekend. This in fact was the first weekend in months that neither of us have had ANYTHING planned! It was such a nice treat. So, what did we do with nothing specific planned? Well, we planned something of course!

What would Hartford be without politics?
It is that time again and I am once again in limbo as the school year begins. I don't have a classroom, then I do have a classroom, then again nope...no classroom. So with no classroom and no supervisor designated to me I have no one to go to about the lack of room. Um, not so much. With students reporting to school on Monday I guess I will be unpacking as the kids arrive.....that is if I have a room!

You know you're lame when....
your little sister gets off the phone with you using the excuse that she " has to go cut Cooper's toenails".....um.....yeah. Just kidding Mia! So Big Ups to Jeje for putting this thing together....so fancy...it took me 4 days just to sign on! Anyway, here are a few pictures from when Mia was visiting and a picture of the lovely Miss Pooka. And one of Tony and Pooka and I on the beach. This weekend I took my first Cranio-sacral Therapy class--it was so amazing! Everyone should get it done; it is so relzxing, and it helps unwind patterns that get recorded and stuck in our fascia from injuries, accidents, and even emotional experiences that we somatitize. Here is the definition of what it is:
CST was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Colic
- Autism
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Infantile Disorders
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
SER is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. SERI offers applications designed to enhance results using CST and other complementary therapies.
Cool, huh? I can't wait to give you guys all sessions. I basically spent all weekend re-learning the pertinent anatomy and the technique and giving and recieving sessions. It is pretty "spacey" work, at times, so I'm feeling pretty chill now. xoxoxoxox B
